How to Calculate and Communicate the ROI of Software Projects
Every engineering project needs a business case. Whether you’re requesting budget for infrastructure modernisation, a new product feature, or a security programme, you need to communicate in the language of business impact.
The ROI Framework for Tech Projects
ROI = (Net Benefit / Total Cost) × 100. Net benefit includes revenue generated, cost saved, and risk reduced. Total cost includes engineering hours, tooling, and ongoing maintenance. Always include a time component — ROI over 12 months is very different from ROI over 5 years.
